I don't do it personally but I understand completely why people do so openly now, it's admirable too how most can agree that this doesn't apply to mom and pop shops, which sadly hardly exist anymore regardless.
The cost of living is completely out of control and the 1%, whom usually do inherit it in one way or another are open about their corruption knowing they will go unpunished.
I have worked in logistics first hand and the line that is commonly regurgitated that "the cost is passed on to the consumer" is a complete farce, prices are just raised for the sake of it at this point, all while the upper chain walks away with a mint every year, see the bread price fixing scandal for one example of many.
The average Walmart throws out thousands of pounds of "expired" but still completely edible food a day, as well as contracting companies to literally incinerate "out of rotation" clothing (coats, sweaters, toques, gloves, boots, work boots etc.) by the truck load while people are freezing on the street.
Despite the increase in theft, supermarket's have such a high shrink that it's not uncommon for even a small location to clear a million profit, per day, this is including those who take things other than essentials like food as well.
Food desert's are a self made problem for these corporations, all it would take to greatly reduce theft is cut some of the astronomical yearly profits and charge a reasonable amount.
So remember next time you see someone "stealing" from a supermarket, you didn't, look away and go one with your business.
If you want to be angry start looking up instead of looking down.
