Good breeders. Are there any?

Been trying to locate a young cat for my wife. Finding a reliable and easy to work with breeder who isn't selling random barn cats, (we already have one of those lovable scamps) isn't as easy as the internet says.
Talked to a few over phone last fall but not much luck. Some seemed sketchy or over promising. I highly doubt anyone is breeding healthy cats at a rate of 10 a month.
Any advise on this?
