I have booked to spend a week in Alta in late December, but Iā€™m wondering if that may be long to stay there?

So I wanted a good chance of seeing the aurora which is why I chose Alta. But I wonder if there are other places that might be more scenic/enjoyable also with a good chance of seeing the aurora. We just want to the usual tourist things, various kinds of playing in the snow - sledding, skiing, snowmobiling. Any & all advice appreciated.

Comments

There is no way to predict when/where you will be able to see the Aurora. Not only do you need to have a high enough KP index you also need to have clear skies.

So best way is to keep checking https://www.nordlysvarsel.com/en/

edit: forgot to add that YR also has a nice aurora vs cloud coverage graph, https://www.yr.no/nb/andre-varsler/1-312957/Norge/Troms og Finnmark/Alta/Alta (bottom of page).
