How do I get the smell out of my drinking horn?

I recieved a drinking horn from a buddy a few months back, as we were groomsmen in his wedding. He bought them from Ale Horn.
I haven't had a chance to use them yet, and kept them in my cupboard. I finally got a chance to use them, (one is a horn tankard, and the other is a small shot horn) and they smell. Badly.
How do I get rid of the smell?
