Visiting Sweden/Denmark in October to December

hey everyone

I'm thinking of making a trip to Sweden and then Denmark both for the first time sometime in Oct to mid Dec. I'm planning to see some cities for a week or so (Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo, the list might slightly change) and then also spend a couple of days in Copenhagen. But could stay up to 2 weeks or so. I'm aiming to see some of the big cities and also get to know the Swedish/Danish culture a bit. Trips to the nature will be welcome, but have to be short during the day as I will only use public transit throughout the trip. A trip further north to see the northern lights sounds interesting too, but I'm not sure when and where to go.

I checked the usual weather for those months. I'm from Canada so I won't mind the cold in those months. But what's the overall weather gonna be like, wet and gloomy, or windy? Should shorter days be a concern?

Is there a specific time during those 2.5 months I should visit or avoid to visit? Any suggestions on things to do/see/visit are appreciated.
