Post Body

There was a post earlier today on the effect of mushroom extracts and COVID-19, which I was following enthusiastically. The post is gone, and it's a shame quite honestly. -1 to whoever did that. Therefore, I am reopening the topic.

It is understood that ND does not promote using herbal supplements for COVID prophylaxis or prevention. It is not suggested or implied anywhere on the website, or here -- alright? So, please do not delete this post and let us have an objective discussion. Otherwise, this community will be no different than Dr. Oz supplement peddling bullshit business.

Now, I am re-asking the original question (in paraphrase): is there any evidence for or against taking mushroom extracts (reishi, turkey tail, cordyceps) with regards to COVID prevention or prophylaxis? In particular, can we argue for or against taking Immune Defense?

On the one hand, taking immunostimulators sound like a bad idea if one is headed for the severe phenotype (cytokine storm). The standard of care in fact includes immunosuppressants. On the other hand, taking immunostimulators might help prevent the infection from progressing in the first place.

Does anybody know whether the existing literature (including studies done on other viral infections, or other causes of cytokine storm, e.g. sepsis, or even in vitro studies) is any helpful to settle this?
