Title. This is coming from the fact that Biden said he’d codify abortion if democrats win in midterms. I know he’s not the only president to make such a promise in relation to some topic or law, but to me, it sounds a bit…unethical? Are presidents suggesting they’ll only fight for some right if their party wins? Is this not a form of bribery?

Not trying to promote any agenda or have an abortion or Biden debate, this is a question I’ve had before but is relevant again with abortion on the ballot and midterms coming up.

ETA: I understood Biden saying he’d codify abortion if democrats win as being malicious, as in “I’ll give you what you want if you give me what I want.” While that’s still true, I missed the whole “I can only give you what you want if you give me the ability to give you what you want.”
