Why would an MP4 I downloaded not play on any player either on my phone or Mac?

The file in question downloaded without any issue; it is 192.7 mb, yet when I attempt to open it using VLC, it doesn’t play and when I moved it over to my Mac; I wouldn’t play on VLC on there or through Quicktime either, is there a reason why it is acting like there is nothing in the flie?
