I found out in recent years my grandparents owned my childhood home. We moved out (with me kicking and screaming bc i loved that house) when i was in high school and theyve been renting it ever since. Ive had several apartments through the years and had recently mentioned looking at homes back closer to the family so my grandfather offered me the house. Days later, i called to clarify exactly what he meant and obviously hes expecting me to rent. My family has never been known to be very helpful to me so the offer alone was uncharacteristic in a good way, but i figured the rent would be lower than it is. I love interior design so my mind had already started thinking of all kinds of renovations that can be done to up the property value and by my calculations, less than 20 upgrades and we can take the value up >$100k for a hell of a deal, as several of my friends from back home work in construction. Its a beautiful house structurally, but several small outdated upgrades alone would transform the place. My question to the internet is, how can i market this idea in such a way that my grandparents benefit enough to take like $100 off the rent? Obviously i understand this is already a huge blessing, but id like to see my childhood house become my dream home and i cant afford to get it all done paying full rent. The ultimate plan i havent disclosed to them is, id like to rent until im stable enough and buy it, i love the house and if i ever move id like to rent it until i can pass it onto my own kids. I feel like this would be a beautiful experience for all of us. I get back in the home ive always loved, my grandparents up their property value and i get to put these design skills to work while creating something our family can love forever. Im just not sure how to present the idea lol
