I started working in VR since I got a VR headset for Christmas, and think its really cool. My concern is about eye strain, as I'm finding mixed information online.
In defence of VR compared to traditional monitors, VR gives depth that monitors don't. Part of why monitors strain our eyes is when we are focusing on something 20 inches from our face, our eyes are always focused on near sight. In VR, things have depth, they can be further away, and you get that variety in focus that regular monitors don't get.
In defence of monitors, monitors are not inches from your eyes, and your eyes get to take in natural light on top of the display light. In VR, the screen is right in front of you, and the only light you take in comes from the headset.
In both cases, I'm a computer programmer and will be spending most of my day in front of a screen. I'm just wondering whats better, to have the screen up against your eyes and get to focus on depth, or to have the screens further from your eyes taken up only a part of your vision, but to always be focused on whats 20 inches away from you?
