Why is it that, when someone says, "I've been spanked and I've turned out fine", they're actually very much not fine?

Every time the topic of spanking is brought up on the internet, a bunch of people say that people who were spanked as kids are not fine. I was spanked every once in a while as a kid, and I truly believe I grew up fine. Why do people believe I'm not?
