It is my understanding that Scandinavia is not a country but more of a grouping of countries ( Norway, Sweden, and Denmark). I also thought that Scandinavian wasn't a language and that you spoke Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian. Is Scandinavian a language?

I was chatting from someone from Scandinavia didn't ask where specifically and asked them what they spoke and they said Scandinavian. So now I'm confused. I'm from the U.S. and would like some clarity on this.
If you're from Sweden (or any country in the area) do you just say generically I'm from Scandinavia and speak Scandinavian?
