How does work have access to my bank to pay me my pay checks, when I never gave them my details?

It’s just something I’ve been thinking about since a guy who was temping at work pointed out it was weird that he was getting paid and never gave them his card details. Like why do they just get access to ppls bank accounts??? (When I tried googling, it just came up with basic pages about scammers and looking out for them)
