How to keep face wash from getting in the mouth during a shower

Seems pretty straightforward, but it's not that easy apparently. I recently got a new face wash that I love, but for some reason it has a very strong taste when it gets in my mouth which seems to be every single time I use it. I obviously keep my mouth closed the entire shower, and rinse it almost immediately but no matter what I can taste the face wash. Is there a way to keep it from going in my mouth? I don't think Saran wrap over my mouth would be a wise idea.
