To start off, I am not an American, but I do somewhat follow the news.
Recently The WH announced that they will be withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan, but why exactly were they even doing there? I get that they were sent after the 9/11 attacks to combat terrorists, but why are they still there now? Is there still a threat of terrorist attacks?
Somewhat related, but Pete Buttigeg also took a 7 month leave during his mayoral term in a deployment to Afghanistan, but why? Wasn't his mayoral duties more important? Was the situation that desperate that they needed every man they could get? Or did he have some special skills which were needed at the time?
