Why is it acceptable to tell a skinny person to eat more or get more meat on their bones but it's rude and fatphobic to tell an overweight person to lose weight?
Post Body

I'm small. Very small. I haven't been able to gain weight consistently because I've been sick and stressed most of my life. Besides that, my whole family is on the smaller side. People tell me constantly that I'm so skinny and need to gain weight and that I look unhealthy. Being skinny sucks, but as hard as I try I can't gain enough for everyone to be satisfied.

If I ask for someone to turn on the heater, because it's 32 degrees outside in the middle of November, I'm told that I just need to pack on some meat. But if my obese coworker complains about it being hot when everyone else is fine, no one tells them to just lose some weight like a normal person.

Why is this double standard acceptable?
