I like to think of myself as a tolerant, respectful left-leaning guy. An ally, if you will for everyone's individual expression and very much live-and-let-live. I've heard estimates of the number of non-binary genders to be 67...how does that work?
I'm not confusing gender with biological sex (i.e. plumbing) of which there are 2 1/2 - male, female and hermaphrodite. Now, I get that there are some people who were born into the wrong body - people who are biologically male but feel internally that they are more comfortable 'presenting' or 'identifying' as female, and vice versa. That's still only two genders, male and female. I'll even concede that there are people who go back and forth on where they feel comfortable, and are in the middle. So that STILL only makes three.
Are we making 'gender points' along that spectrum, and that's where these 'dozens' of genders come from? Are they defined?
Not to be glib, but to an ignorant bystander, it looks like a lot of unnecessary differentiation that's meant to make unremarkable narcissists feel 'special' than a useful term for organizing thoughts.
What am I missing?
