The Internet and its Millions of Acronyms

So I am studying for and exam on Internet Communication Technologies, and I am so annoyed by all the acronyms the professor keeps using for every little thing. There is VPN, VNP, MPLS, NAT, and many more. Is it just an internet standard to use an acronym for literally everything? Or is it just my professor going ham?
