I got braces in 5th grade, had them taken off in 8th, and ever since then have had a permanent retainer on the back of my teeth to keep them from moving. The glue on this retainer comes off every couple of months and it costs a lot of money for them to put it back on. Last time I paid $75 for my original orthodontist to put it back on, hoping it would last longer and I think it has been 6 months since then. When I got the retainer I was under the impression that the glue wouldn’t come off this frequently, and I think it does because my jaw might still be misaligned. I’ve been told that I should not get a surgery because recovery would be miserable, but I’m thinking what if my retainer problems could be solved if I did. Help?
Edit: usually it comes off every 2-3 months, but this time has been 6 because I had the original doc tack it back on. I don’t eat sticky or hard foods.
