Can you teach someone to read things when they already know how to read?
Post Body

My mother is terrible. When we’re out shopping she gets all in a huff when she can’t find something even though all you have to do is read the overhead aisle signs that tell you what’s down that aisle. Or if we’re trying to find somewhere and she gets all worked up because we’re ‘lost’ but I then point at a sign and say ‘LOOK this signs says it’s this way’. Or on websites she gets all huffy because she’s trying to find a webpage and doesn’t know which bits to click on and I’m like ‘look it says (e.g. dresses) here, click on that!’

She’s a nightmare and I’ve been trying SO hard to just get her to read what’s right in front of her but she doesn’t! She looks but she doesn’t read.

She’s not an idiot. She struggles a bit with spelling but otherwise is mentally sound - well, apart from her BPD which makes her moods a bit all over the place at times, but she’s being managed under the GP and now the mental health team. But I wouldn’t say BPD would make someone like this?

Am I wasting my energy on her, like someone trying to teach a lazy person to not be lazy? She just does these things ALL the time and it’s exhausting. I do love her though.
