In a documentary interview with a 2 people who speak different languages, how are they able to communicate in real time?

I’m thinking of the last vice documentary I saw where Hamilton Morrison was interviewing guys from Indonesia. The person responded in their native language and he immediately responded afterwards in English. This was as they were walking in the jungle so there couldn’t have been any signs for him to read. Is it an ear piece that auto translates ?
