Why are th French getting berated for surrendering too quickly in WW2?

They were present throughout the entirety of the war, constantly fighting Germany non stop, even when their city got taken, they have to do little skirmishes, when Americans finally arrive, the french have to retrain them to fight the Germans, and let's not forget that they have to stop Germany from massacring the British army in Dunkirk, so that the British can fight the next battle

Why is French getting sidelined when it's the MVP the whole time?
