How do I negotiate a pay range or hourly rate? Never done it before.
Hello! I (M21) just got my second interview at CH Robinson Logistics in the US.
In my area the pay ranges from 22.50- 32.75. Obviously I know that the 32.75 is for VERY experienced people in the logistics field. I’ll be doing Carrier Representative work, which I’ve read is essentially sales.
Luckily for me I’ve been in sales (retail sales) since I was 17, I’ll be 22 on Saturday. I became a sales Supervisor for Best Buy at 18-19 years old and they paid me 22.40, and then I worked at AT&T as a sales rep for the past two years making 25.50 plus commission.
I’ve actually never negotiated a salary or pay before, because most of them are set in stone, not ranges because it’s retail. But this being my first out of retail job I want to make sure that I am getting my worth.
What I’m hopefully looking to negotiate is 24.50-26.00/hr just to match my previous compensation. How would I highlight my skills? Is there an easy way to do this without coming off needy or like I just care about pay?
The hourly alone at AT&T allowed me to live comfortably even before commission. Before commission I took home 3.4k a month and that was enough to pay my bills and my 1547 a month rent, with over 1k left over. The commission was taxed differently so I technically made 5k a month.
I have been looking at logistics for a while since I’m pursuing my Bachelors in Business Administration and I actually finish the degree next year in May.
To sum it up I feel like my sales experience, despite being retail should make me stand out.
Any tips?
