Does anyone else feel like they learn the craziest things about their family during the holidays?
Post Body

I was at my mom's for christmas and noticed a wool painting on my mom's wall. My mom has had this thing since before I was born. It's a nice painting of some flowers growing in a watering can. I've grown up seeing it on our wall and just never questioned it. I assumed she got it at some hobby shop. I casually asked her how long she had it there, and she thought about it, and asked my uncle when my great aunt died. Said aunt had died of cancer years before I was born, so I never met her. I was confused why this was brought up, thinking maybe it was a hand-me-down, and my dad casually remarked that my aunt made it. This painting that I had grown up seeing my entire life was actually the work of a deceased relative, and I had no idea. Then they mentioned that there was actually a small memorial for her at the park I had gone to a bunch of times with my childhood dog, and also had no idea about. It all felt a bit insane to take in at once.
