40 hours is excepted for me but lately I’ve been picking up 2.5 hours extra some evenings, as well as 8 hour shifts some weekends.
The 2.5 hours feels quieter because most people have left, and the weekend shifts are also quieter and sometimes slow.
When it’s slow, I can spend 1-2 hours just lounging around.
I use the time to watch mindless reels or finance videos but the ones I watch say the same stuff (save 100k, invest in index funds, etc).
On a weekend like this where it’s not busy, I get to a point where I feel bored and stuck at the same time. I forget that I’m getting paid. It just feels odd because I would normally at least be at the mall or go for a drive but instead I’m on the clock, confined in a building.
I did just realize that I’ve improved in the 2.5 years I’ve been in this field because at first on weekends I was eager to just leave work instead of staying longer to make more, and now here I am doing 2.5 evenings as well as staying full weekends.
I’m not sure I like that feeling of confinement even though it’s paid. I feel like some people would not care and just call a friend and it would be similar to being home.
Is there a way to make working 50 hours a week more fun in the midst of being confined?
