What is the point of the "write instructions on how to make a peanut butter sandwich" exercise that's usually done in computer science programming classes?
Post Body
On an additional note, when the instructions are submitted, why does the volunteer (or often, the professor) proceed to follow the given instructions way too literally, with no regard to common sense? (For example, when the instructions say to put the peanut butter in between two slices of bread, the volunteer will put the jar of peanut butter in between the slices instead of spreading the actual peanut butter, as it should be done.)
