Predators are a big part of keeping the population of prey animals healthy. But what about animals like porcupines and skunks where most predators are only going to mess with them.
A few other big ones (no pun intended) that comes to mind are elephants and rhinos. Even in desperation, a pride of lions are doing to struggle to bring down a healthy adult of either of those two species. I know that poaching has ensured that Africa doesnโt exactly have elephants and rhinos swarming the entire continent, but I know elephant populations have now stabilized in east Africa. In Southern Africa, their populations are growing. Is it literally just droughts and long gestation times that keep elephants in check?
