Why are my holiday pay hours lower than my actual shift hours?
Post Body

Earlier this year I graduated college and started my first office job with vacation days and paid holidays and all of that jazz. I’m officially out of the probation period too. For context I’m in the US.

My shift is 8:30-5:00 with a 30 minute unpaid break, so in total I’m punched in for 8 hours. However, for Thanksgiving, I noticed that they only compensated me for 7 hours and 30 minutes. Is there a legitimate reason for this? Like is this just “how it is?” Or should I risk bringing this to someone’s attention?

I know it’s only 30 minutes, but if I’m selling 8 hours of my life to this company every day anyway, I want to be fully compensated for holidays too. I’m a little afraid to approach my supervisors because this place is not the friendliest or organized (don’t even get me started on my training experience), but it’s the best job I can get at the moment in my small town with my little experience.

I admittedly don’t know much about this kind of thing so I’m just curious if this is the norm or if it’s possible they’re intentionally giving me less. Thanks!
