Why is W pronounced double-u?

It just makes no sense, for the following reasons:
- W looks more like a double-v
- It's the only letter whose pronunciation has more than 1 syllable, making it kinda clunky to say
- Double-u doesn't even have a W sound in it. EDIT: nevermind it does I'm an idiot
