Why do koalas only exist in Australia

Post Body

I have heard of the theory that because they are so defenseless, they can only survive on the isolated continent of Australia, which their predators can't reach. But at the same time, isn't Australia known for having many dangerous animals of its own? So how is it an easier environment for koalas to survive in? Thank you for your answers.
