Why do brownie recipes insist on using so much espresso powder?
Post Body

The majority of brownie recipes I see call for a tablespoon of coffee powder. And they always say "don't worry it won't taste like coffee." But I've made those recipes, and it absolutely has a coffee taste.

I like coffee, I drink it all the time. Usually black, sometimes decaf. So I do get the appeal of adding coffee to the brownies, it tastes good to an extent. A tablespoon is a lot of coffee, and it's an extremely powerful taste. I find that in most recipes, I need to reduce the amount of coffee by at least half to find a good balance. Otherwise the coffee taste is just too strong.
