Should I zip up or unzip clothing when washing in a washing machine in delicate mode?

I bought cheap clothing, most of them usually uses tying method or just flex rope. But sometimes my friends gifted me jackets, dress, and pants with zip.
I had experience when I zip it up, it is more likely to get broken but when I unzip, I had some other clothing's seams get ripped in the washer.
