Does anyone you know think that fielding inside baseball/cricket is less important than batting?

My brother oftens tells me that he thinks that if you are the fielding team in cricket and the game ended up being called off before it's your turn to bat because of the rain that you wasted your time because cricket is all about batting. He reckons that the team who were able to bat didn't waste their time because at least they did the thing that cricket is known for.
