How do I get a FIDE rating in chess?
Post Body

I've been improving my game over the last month and a half. I've crawled my way from the disgusting 200s of chess dot com to a whopping 500. Sometime soon I want to take part in a real tournament and get my ass handed to me, just to see what the experience is like over the board. However I've been told that you need a FIDE rating to take part in any FIDE-approved tournament.

How do I get this? Are there qualifier/open tournaments one needs to do to get into the federation?
