Do dating apps work for most people?

It seems like every post about dating struggles someone suggests dating apps, they've never really worked for me though, all I've gotten from those is getting ghosted and I had one date. Am I just really unattractive or something, or do these apps just suck? They diminished my self esteem and put me in the worst mental state I've been in years, I still can't stop thinking about it obviously.
