Why don't more gamers play sports games?

On reddit, it seem like a lot of folks don't like them, but they have so much replay value because they have Franchise or similar modes that allow you to build teams in so many different ways. If you play something like resident evil or control or assassins creed, once the game is over its over...there is only one ending , most of the time.
