I fill the trays with Brita-filtered water. The water itself smells and tastes fine. The ice cubes (made from the same water) smell funky, and when they melt into a glass of water, they taste gross. The freezer is clean, less than 2 months old, and has no scent.
Lol. So I actually recently bought a set from Amazon. The cubes are kept in a box with a lid once I dump them out of the trays. The part that sucks is the ice takes days to freeze if I cover the trays. I’ll see if it makes a difference though!
You might’ve just changed my life.
Sounds legit! You’re probably right. Because even though my fridge doesn’t smell bad, obviously I have fresh foods in there which are way more fragrant than what’s in the freezer.
💡I’ll grab some tomorrow at the store. Thanks for the tip!
Sorry, the trays are silicone, the storage box is plastic. Not sure if that would impact the taste?
Thanks for the link! I really don’t know what it could be absorbing in the freezer. I wonder if it’s possible for smells from the refrigerator to transfer up there?
Yep! It’s a set from amazon that comes with a storage container, two trays, and a lid that you can use to help punch the cubes out of the trays.
Not anymore. I had a ziplock bag of cooked lentils awhile back but it’s gone now.
Not that I’ve noticed. The freezer stays very cold to my knowledge.
The trays are super new too. Washed them before use.

I now have a science project to do and I’m not mad about it haha. I will try to remember to report my findings in a few days!
