How does one stick to a diet plan successfully? How can one overcome the urge to eat the junk food they crave?

Iām overweight by 50-60 pounds. All weight I plan on losing within a year. I do like working out and I like sports, and I honestly do like fruits and vegetables and healthy meats, but I find myself going back to sweets, chips, and fried foods every time I try to commit to a diet. What are good tips for how I can overcome these urges and hold myself accountable to a diet plan?
