Can dunking a baseball in water really cause it to break a baseball bat when pitched?
Post Body

In The Little House on the Prairie S2 E4, there's a scene during a baseball game where a guy dunks the ball in a pail of water before pitching it. When Charles then hits the ball, his bat smashes into pieces. He demands they investigate the ball, and it is discovered that the ball is wet. Is this something that can actually happen? If so, how does it work from a physics perspective?
