How many hits from a preroll should you take as a beginner to weed?

I’ve vaped before and that was okay. My friends and I were wondering how many hits is too much, is a preroll too ambitious for weed first time? Want to do it right and not green out or fuck myself up. Also don’t want to do it wrong
