Why are some people against the legalization of marijuana for those 21+?

I have never understood the opposition to the legalization of marijuana. of course, no substance lacks risk, but marijuana seems quite safe compared to things like alcohol which can be purchased almost effortlessly. Marijuana itself rarely causes criminal behavior outside of issues that arise when selling and distributing it illegally. What are the reasons that people are opposed to its legalization? is it just people being prude/traditional?
