What do sellers get out of "buy now, pay later" deals without interest backdating?

I understand that many retailers rely on careless buyers missing the 6 or 12 month deadlines (or being unable to pay) and then immediately backdate a huge amount of interest. What do the sellers get out of it if such a backdating clause isn't included?
