In fiction, where does the practice of representing dreams using two dots and then a cloud come from?
Post Body

As a kid, I remember trying to get myself to discover I was dreaming so I could find the clouds my dreams were made of (thinking "maybe if I start digging or running away while in my dreams, I can reach the cloud barrier and then pass through that so I can walk around real life like in Spongebob when he is dreaming") and being disappointed when I couldn't find any cloud barrier.
