Can you have a misdemeanor upgraded

To a felony.
Super long story short , I was caught with marijuana ( a small blunt basically half a gram) In Johnson County that's in Kansas. I live in Missouri, It's legal here. I sign and started probation but after stopped going so there's that but besides getting a warrant.
I had a back ground check get done for a new job and they got back that I now have a felony..
Is that possible?
I'll think that they couldn't do that due to me already signing, pleded no contest.
