Why do Americans get so fed up with paid public toilets in the EU when similarly touristy places often have no toilets at all not even for paying customers?
Post Body

Similarly touristy cities in the US or Canada I mean stand alone Public toilets are pretty much nonexistent. Private toilets or toilets in facilities are hit or miss but often the only choice to play mother may I with the business owner.

I noticed that Toilets at some but not all train stations in European cities are private businesses that charge. But this way they encourage people to use it.

In US not all train stations have public toilets some of them only private toilets for Amtrak ticketed passengers only. Yes Amtrak would deny access to anyone else including bus transfer passengers or sometimes even commuter rail riders.

Many subway stations in the US have no toilets at all due to anti terrorism. It’s awful in places like NYC and San Francisco, most businesses and eateries near the main subway line have no toilet in their unit(but in a attached and secured main building where the shopkeeper must escort anyone else using it. if one does find a public toilet it’s likely very smelly and trashed.

Interestingly I heard pay toilets were only banned in North America in 1970s due to gender discrimination consequentially many “public” toilet providers went bankrupt and shut down.
