What on earth is a "Fosterism"?
Post Body

So as an Australian I've noticed there's a few Americans on places like Reddit and Facebook that have referred to things I've said as a "Fosterism"

Now I've looked up Urban dictionary and the only entry it has for a "Fosterism" is:

A syndrome that happens when a redneck tries to be super intellectual, but in reality sound the biggest douchebag in the universe. It is very common for people with the is syndrome to drink, smoke, and dip excessively.

Now this doesn't fit the context in which they're using it, they'll generally say things like:

It's a Fosterism, like you guys wanting to fuck spiders or not calling a Shrimp a Shrimp

I've also seen it in the context of Australians changing the name of things. We will "Fosterize" it

Last time I had it was because I called a Spanner a Spanner and not a Wrench, apparently "Spanner" is a "Fosterism" or "that's been "Fosterized"

But the only definition I can find is once again, Urban Dictionary, which says:

the act of breaking, butchering, or fucking something up that was perfectly fine for no reason other than personal satisfaction

Which I don't think is applicable to calling a wrench a spanner because that's just something that all Australians do, I don't think we're doing it for personal satisfaction....

Where did this term come from? What's the origin of it? Is it a negative or a positive?

It feels like a fairly new term to me, But who knows. I could have been around for a while and now the internet is just making it more popular?
