There are a few but sizeable amount of western parents who seem to not care about their kids, especially their daughters. Like if they have health issues, diseases, or they are a victim of bad things, they just do not care. And when they turn 18 or 16 (again especially for daughters) some will just kick them out of the house and cut them out of their life.

Don't get me wrong, non western parents like Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani or Middle Eastern parents can be like this too, such as forcing their child to marry when they turn 18. Well, there are many western parents who also force their daughters into marriage, especially in rural and conservative areas of United States. So it isn't really ethical to say the least that this neglect is better than forced marriage or physical violence. And of course, not all western parents would be neglectful like that and treat their teenage children as slaves. I have an acquaintance who is 18 and still lives with her family as they care with each other. I 17M still is in contact with my mum and dad and other family members.
