How to deal with people who say “But it’s the truth!” to win their argument
Post Body

My parents will often say very hurtful and unproductive things sometimes and if I say anything back they claim they’re just trying to protect their kids and “it’s the truth! Just like how my shirt is white. We’re just saying it how it is.”

Famous examples include calling my first girlfriend a whore so loudly over the phone that she overheard and broke up with me a week later (there was never any truth to this), calling my sister fat even though she’s just trying to finish her 4th year in art school and not even that fat, and now recently calling my Dad a loser because he fainted from heat stroke.

I’m usually just at a loss of words when it’s comes to an argument since I’m terrible at expressing myself and could use a little help being able get to the point
