Are HR recruiters allowed to hire (or not hire) job applicants based on what sports they play?
Post Body

For context, the HR recruiter asks the applicant (as an "ice-breaker") "What sports do you play?" While a seemingly innocent question, the results would be the following:

  • If the applicant answers with a team sport (i.e. basketball, football, baseball), then the recruiter deems them a team player and thus gives them a pass.
  • If the applicant answers with an individual sport (i.e. bowling), or that they don't play any sports, then the recruiter deems them not a team player and thus rejects their application.

Are HR recruiters allowed to do this?
