Where do tv shows find archival footage?

So I'm watching Explained (the one on Netflix) to get inspiration for an upcoming work assignment and I'm noticing they have a lot of archival footage used to better explain their points. Where do people find those clips?
Additionally, where do they get the sound bites too? Is there a particular website producers or creators go to to find these kinds of things?
